Olympus Print Group has signed on as the first customer for Domino’s new N730i inkjet digital label press.

N730i is the first press built on Domino’s Generation 7 inkjet platform. The UK converter is an existing user of Domino’s inkjet printing technology, including an N610i as part of a hybrid printing platform.

Adrian Brown, managing director at Olympus Print Group, confirmed that the new press’ higher resolution was an important factor in his company’s decision to install the press, and for the future of the company.

‘The advent of 1200dpi is a natural evolution. The bar never falls, it always rises in our market from a quality point of view. As a result, 1200dpi was an evolution that was always going to happen.’

N730i features the Brother Bitstar 1200dpi printhead, which uses a combination of the smallest drop sizes of 2.1pl and nominal drop sizes of 2.8pl and 3.3pl to provide consistent ink density across the image, with claimed sharper edges and smoother gradients.

Mr Brown continued, ‘1200dpi is helping us make moves in new and different markets, such as shrink sleeves, where with the droplet size we can get better shrinkage and graphics are more controlled. Tonal advantages mean skin effects on home and personal care work are good as well.’
