Contact Originators has installed a second Epson Surecolor P9000 wide format printer and GMG OpenColor proofing software, as it seeks to ensure colour accuracy from proof to press.

The wide format printer includes a violet ink set to extend the colour gamut to 11 inks. OpenColor is designed to enable accurate proof simulation of the overprinting effects of spot colours using special multichannel profiles. GMG MiniWedge, included as part of OpenColor, has just 39 swatches, meaning it is small enough to position in the trim area of almost every job. This allows for profile proofs and separations to be produced significantly faster, as well as producing less waste and improving overall quality. The range of devices with extra violet ink also helps when proofing extended gamut or a brand’s spot colour.

GMG OpenColor sits alongside Contact’s existing GMG software, including ProofControl, which verifies proofs in seconds to Fogra, ISO or custom output standards. Contact also uses GMG FlexoProof to provide colour accurate halftone proofs with extended colour spaces and simulation of the substrate structures.

Further, GMG OpenColor integrates with Contact’s Hybrid Packz software to convert artwork into any combination of multi-channel from four colours up to 15 colours. The company also utilises GMG’s colour separation tools. This allows the use of actual press data when applying colour conversions to images, ensuring that all predictions are made upfront without wasting valuable press time.

This latest collaboration between Contact Originators and GMG will enable greater consistency, ensuring the same colours are accurately reproduced from proof to press and from one run to the next. It will also allow Contact to significantly shorten lead times, while simultaneously enhancing control and efficiency.

Contact Originators is a packaging origination and graphics management company. GMG has worked in partnership with the company for over a decade and recently completed the implementation of a year-long investment programme, enabling Contact Originators to strengthen its position in the corrugated and print sector.

Mark Kay, flexo colour manager at Contact Originators, explained, ‘This latest installation shows our commitment to being at the very forefront of print technology. The GMG OpenColor solution, which runs on our two Epson Surecolor violets, places us right at the top of the sector and means we can continue to offer our customers unrivalled quality and service.’
