RDM Group has released its 2024 Sustainability Booklet, outlining progress made in the first five years of its sustainability plan and against the targets linked to its Sustainability-Linked Bonds (SLBs) issued in 2020.

According to the report, 89.7% of the group’s waste is now sent for recovery, a 17% increase since 2020 and close to its 2030 goal of 90%. Wastewater discharge intensity has fallen by 17% to 9.20m³ per tonne, while carbon intensity has decreased by 9% to 0.449 tCO2e per tonne of production. In 2024, the company recycled over 1.1 million tonnes of paper – equivalent to the annual paper waste of around 18 million people.

The group also reported that 96% of its fibre-based materials now come from recycled paper, and 42% of its purchased electricity is sourced from renewables.

The publication highlights several packaging innovations, including the introduction of Strong Board, a higher-stiffness material that allows customers to reduce board weight without compromising strength, and an improved Serviliner grade with enhanced printability for consumer goods packaging.

RDM Group also detailed a collaboration with Arti Grafiche Reggiane and Italian food brand GranTerre to establish a local closed-loop recycling system. The initiative reuses production scraps from snack box manufacturing, incorporating 25% reclaimed fibres into new cartonboard.

Chief executive of the company Michele Bianchi said the latest report reflects the company’s ongoing work to reduce environmental impact and strengthen circular economy practices across its operations and partnerships.
