UK printer Flexi Labels has installed a Star Embellish unit from Inkjet Solutions, as it targets the food, beverage, cosmetic, health, retail and promotional markets with premium finishes.

Located in Peterborough, Flexi Labels manufactures and prints self-adhesive labels to serve all types of trades, including retail shops, offices, corporate, home-based businesses and individuals seeking short runs.

Installed on a Daco DF350SRD semi-rotary die cutter at Flexi Labels, the Star Embellish unit can print textured varnish at heights of up to 100 microns, at speeds of up to 30m/min. Driven by the latest recirculating printhead technology from Xaar, it is available with print widths for varnish or high opacity white from 70mm to 560mm, at a printing resolution of 720 x 720dpi with seven grey levels at 15m/min or 360 x 720dpi at 30m/min.

Flexi Labels director Assad Gilani noted that the company chose this investment as it opens up the ability to print digitally without expensive setup and reduction in wastage of ink and material when running flexo presses.

‘The Star Embellish is a massive cost-saving to us because the majority of other suppliers charge plate set-up for each variation of the artwork, whereas we print everything digitally.’ As well as cost savings, old and new customers alike will benefit from an expanded product offering that now includes premium finishes such as foiling and embellishment.

‘This investment will mean quick turnarounds and competitive prices for premium labels,’ said Mr Gilani.
