Canada’s Lorpon Labels and Zolemba, located in Haaksbergen, The Netherlands, have both made recent investments into HP Indigo’s liquid electrophotographic (LEP) digital printing technology, extending their respective capabilities and capacities.

Lorpon Labels has doubled its digital label production capacity with a new HP Indigo 6900 digital press, improving its agility and ability to deliver labels with fast turnarounds. This also supports an upswing in demand for food packaging. Lorpon Labels already operates an HP Indigo WS6800 digital press, as well as flexo presses.

The Toronto-based converter, which supplies labels to the wine and spirits, beverage, beer, food and cosmetics markets, has reported a near 70% increase in orders during the coronavirus pandemic, as food suppliers scramble to restock stores.

Jeff Sommer, vice president of business development at Lorpon Labels, explained, ‘Covid-19 brought unexpected demand for labels. The addition of another press gives us flexibility and allows us to continue to deliver fast turnaround times in a period of dynamic supply chains.’

As Lorpon Labels looks to grows its HP digital business, it is utilising HP PrintOS Print Beat, a Cloud-based PSP management option, to monitor the productivity of the presses in real-time, identify issues, and keep press uptime to a maximum.

With its investment, Zolemba is aiming to become ‘the most innovative’ e-commerce printing company in Europe through the installation of two HP Indigo 6900 digital presses.

Zolemba uses digital technologies to both print and cut labels. This enables the company to reduce the delivery time for orders to hours rather than days. As an online retailer, the company combines online ordering with efficient production, resulting in high quality products with a fast delivery.

Zolemba’s two HP Indigo 6900 digital presses enable customisation, even in smaller volumes. In addition, the presses contribute to an increase in production speed. They are also versatile, making them suitable for a wide range of applications such as in-mould labelling, printing shrink sleeves, and producing wraparound labels. The combination of the quality of the HP Indigo digital press together with Zolemba’s online expertise has created a ‘unique market position’, as CEO Marthijn Kieneker explained.

‘With the arrival of the HP digital presses, Zolemba is taking the next step in its ambition to become the most innovative printing company in Europe. Together with HP, we offer customers a unique range of convenient online ordering, high-quality customised labels and high-speed delivery. The addition of the digital press to our machinery makes it possible to expand our market even further. Our enthusiastic team of professionals can’t wait to see the first projects come out of the machine.’

Of Lorpon Labels’ use of toner digital printing, Mr Sommer added, ‘We gave small to medium size business the chance to compete with big global brands and over time, these brands grew and brought big brands to us.’
