The European Carton Makers Association (ECMA) has strengthened its core leadership team with the appointment of Mike Turner as managing director.

Mr Turner brings many years of industry experience to the role, including 15 years with paper-based packaging provider International Paper. He has further experience of both small and large packaging companies. He has also been heavily involved in the management of other industry associations, including Pack2Go Europe.

The appointment helps to further secure the recognition of ECMA as a pan-European association for the carton sector.

ECMA represents 500 European carton manufacturers and paper mills across the region, as well as welcoming supplier members including EFI, Esko, Gietz, HP, Iggesund, Koenig & Bauer, Metsa Board, Pankaboard, Scodix, Stora Enso and Xeikon.

The managing director role covers previous responsibilities held by Hans van Schaik and Rogier Krabbendam. Mr Turner begins his role in September, where he will represent ECMA members as a spokesperson, liaising directly with key legislators and the media to raise the profile of the sector and address industry challenges. He will be present at this year’s ECMA Annual Congress, taking place 19-20 September in Malta.

ECMA president Jean-François Roche commented, ‘We warmly welcome Mike into his new role. He has a deep understanding of our complex industry landscape and is perfectly positioned to guide long-term strategy and help our members effect real change to continually drive the sector forward.’
