The European arm of AstroNova is introducing new labelling, made from grass paper, for direct foodstuff contact.

The new paper provides an eco-friendly label option for organic product brand owners and can be used for a wide range of product types including foodstuffs, cosmetics, wine, pet foods and clothing. It is set to be unveiled, together with the QL-300 printer, at the Empack show in Dortmund, Germany, on 8–9 May.

The manufacturing process for the paper uses just one litre of water per ton, compared to 6000 litres per ton of conventional wood pulp paper.

Its permanent adhesive is perfect for small surfaces on a variety of substrates and is approved for direct foodstuff contact. It has been awarded ISEGA Institute certification and as an option, AstroNova can also provide an acrylic dispersion adhesive, which is removable without leaving residue, from a variety of substrates.

The light brown colour of grass paper means that a vintage-style label can be achieved without the need for additional processing.
