Grupo La Plana has purchased an EFI Nozomi C18000 digital printing press as part of its plan to offer clients ‘greater customisation of their products and flexibility to address consumption trends.’ The Spanish company, which produces corrugated and solid cardboard containers and packaging, manufactures around 2 million boxes every day.

CEO and managing director Juan Ignacio Piquer opted for the Nozomi as he believes EFI is helping to lead the transformation from analogue to digital imaging in the corrugated packaging space. ‘We are aware of the fact that our product has been introduced into the distribution chain of our clients,’ he said. ‘Consequently, we cannot only confine ourselves to its selling as mere providers, but we also try to provide a solution for new product and service needs. We are always ready to investigate and collaborate closely with customers.’

The press is 1.8m wide and capable of printing up to 10,000 890 x 890mm boards per hour. It works with six colours (CMYK, orange and purple) and will allow Grupo La Plana to print directly onto corrugated board, simplifying the production process while reducing time and costs.

The press will be based at a new printing centre in Onda, Spain. Grupo La Plana has recently invested more than €25 million in its production centres, installing the latest technology as part of a plan to increase production by 50%.
