International paper and packaging company DS Smith has appointed James Lomax as its managing director for its UK and Ireland packaging division. He succeeds Paul Clarke.

Mr Lomax previously served as director of supply chain and operations within DS Smith’s EMEA packaging division and has worked in the business for eight years. The company says he brings more than 20 years of experience in FMCG and packaging across sales, marketing, innovation and operations.

According to DS Smith, Mr Lomax’s background in “customer-centric strategies and operational excellence” positions him to lead the region through its next phase of development.

Mr Lomax said: “I am proud to re-join the UK and Ireland sub-region in the role of managing director, alongside an outstanding leadership team and a highly skilled and engaged workforce.”

He added: “I have been fortunate to see first-hand the best of DS Smith both within the UK and Ireland, across EMEA, and most recently within International Paper, and I am inspired by the possibilities that lie ahead. My immediate priorities are to ensure we maintain a safe environment during this transition, and to re-immerse myself into the operations of the UK and Ireland business, getting out to meet as many sites, teams, and customers as possible.”

DS Smith states that its strategic focus remains on cost competitiveness, customer experience and strengthening its supply position, while continuing to advance its priorities within the UK and Ireland market.

Mr Lomax concluded: “We thank Paul for his significant contribution to DS Smith and wish him every success in the future. We have a strong foundation, and I look forward to building on that as we deliver our growth agenda and create long-term value for our business and stakeholders.”
