Telford-based Labfax has installed its first digital press, the AccurioLabel 230 digital toner press, manufactured by Konica Minolta and supplied by Focus Label Machinery. The label printer will allow Labfax to print full colour labels digitally for the first time.

With 23.4m/min print speeds, and a native 1200 x 1200dpi resolution, the output quality is claimed to compete favourably against other high-end digital presses which cost three to four times the price, stated Focus. The press is able to run standard 330mm width coated paper, uncoated paper and polypropylene label materials with no special pre-coating.

Labfax operations director Claire Radnor commented: “We had been researching digital label presses for some time but kept coming back to the AccurioLabel 230. For the price and the footprint size, there isn’t another press available, which gives us the high print quality and variable data facility we need. As well as selecting the most suitable press, we were also conscious of choosing a reputable and reliable supplier. The longstanding partnership between Labfax and Focus Label Machinery plus the Konica Minolta Accurio Label, was the perfect solution for us.”

The new press comes with Konica Minolta’s ‘AccurioPro Flux’ label imposition software, which optimises the use of media by automating jobs, such as impositioning and step-and-repeat, as well as support for variable data printing. This is complemented by a Konica Minolta Miyro Auto Scan Spectrophotometer, which provides the ability to accurately profile and calibrate colours in around four minutes.

Ms Radnor praised the AccurioLabel 230 for its intuitive software and ease of use, highlighting the professional support from both Focus and Konica Minolta during the procurement and installation process. She noted that thorough trials were conducted before committing, calling the investment a major step forward for the company and its growing client base.

James Thomas, head of sales and business development at Focus, emphasised the AccurioLabel 230’s suitability for companies of all sizes. He cited advantages such as on-demand full-colour printing, variable data, fixed pricing, low investment costs, and no need for special substrates.
