Scatolificio Ceriana, a family-owned corrugated packaging provider, has added digital to its production mix with the installation of an HP PageWide C550.

Installed at the company’s facility in Verona, Italy, this digital press will enable Scatolificio Ceriana to meet evolving market demands with ‘greater flexibility, efficiency and sustainability’.

Scatolificio Ceriana’s decision to invest in the HP PageWide C550 was driven by a range of business objectives. The company sought to manage its job mix more effectively and tackle customisation needs, as well as tap into new applications in the food and beverage market. Specifically, the press’ water-based ink technology allows Scatolificio Ceriana to offer sustainable, recyclable and compostable packaging solutions, meeting stringent industry standards.

Marco Barichello, who now runs the Italian printing company alongside his brother Giovanni, stated, ‘The HP C550 allows us to combine innovation with sustainability, a combination we have long strived for.’

Moreover, the addition of this press to Scatolificio Ceriana’s existing equipment allows the company to target litho-lam applications and improve the efficiency of its flexo presses. This complementary approach, according to the company, allows for an optimised production process that leverages the strengths of both digital and flexo printing. Specifically, this ‘harmonious’ integration effectively broadens the company’s operational scope and flexibility, allowing Scatolificio Ceriana to cater to a more diverse range of clients and market demands.

Giovanni Barichello added, ‘This is not just a business decision; it’s a commitment to our values. The HP PageWide C550 press will help us offer superior service to our clients while aligning with our responsibility to protect the planet.’

Mark Dempsey, worldwide go-to-market director for HP PageWide Industrial, described Italy as an important sub-region for the printing equipment manufacturer, with multiple installations of both post and pre-print systems.

‘The Italian market is an innovative and competitive one. We are pleased to see that also medium-sized companies, like Scatolificio Ceriana’s understand the value and importance of digital to the future growth of their business,’ said Mr Dempsey. ‘The C550 announced earlier in the year, with its enhanced speed of 90 linear m/min, allows our customers to set new standards of quality and service to their brands.’
