US-based Independent II has used its Domino X630i inkjet digital press to produce corrugated packaging for storage specialist Rev-A-Shelf.

Located in Kentucky, Rev-A-Shelf is a manufacturer of residential cabinet storage and organisational products for kitchens, closets and bathrooms. Operating out of a 315,000sqft facility, Rev-A-Shelf serves customers worldwide, in the US and Mexico, to Europe and Asia. Independent II meanwhile is a privately-owned and operated corrugated manufacturer with capabilities that include design, manufacture, warehousing and delivery of corrugated products and packaging that protect products in-transit and sells them on store shelves.

With both companies operating out of Louisville, Kentucky, it is no surprise that they have been partners for more than 25 years. Further, Rev-A-Shelf has a stated company goal to add value to its customers, ‘with quality, service and innovation in everything [we] do.’ Through its capabilities and expertise – specifically the addition of inkjet digital corrugated printing with a previous investment in Domino’s X630i platform – Independent II is assisting Rev-A-Shelf in achieving this goal.

For Steve Jones, vice president of consumer sales at Rev-A-Shelf, packaging is important to improving not only his company’s brand, but also ‘our customer experience’.

He explained, ‘Rev-A-Shelf is entering its 40th year of doing business and we are the leading manufacturer of kitchen organisation products. Anything from kitchen to vanity or closet organisation and even LED lighting, Rev-A-Shelf has you covered.

‘Digital printing has not only changed the way we look at our business but it has actually opened up some other opportunities that would not have been available before.

‘When Independent II brought us this opportunity to look into digital printing, I will be honest, I was sceptical. But now that we’ve been doing this for over a year, there is no way that I would look back. Digital printing has actually revolutionised and changed the way that we’re doing business, the way it represents our brand and the way that we service our customers.’

This has included large and small customers, the latter of whom Mr Jones identifies as having benefitted the most from Rev-A-Shelf’s use of inkjet digital printing.

‘If you were to ask me if I could go back to traditional printing methods, the answer would absolutely be no. Traditional printing methods usually only catered to our larger customers that had the ability to run large print runs. Well now, digital printing is not only going to benefit our larger customers, it’s also going to benefit our smaller customers who didn’t have the ability to have large print runs in the past. Lower lead times, lower print runs and changing artwork are the three keys that will make us successful and make our brand available to everyone.’
