V-Shapes has developed 100% recyclable polypropylene sachets with high barrier capability, complementing its single-dose packaging offer.

V-Shapes single-dose packaging allows for sachets for liquid and semi-solid products that can be opened with a single gesture using one hand. In combination with inkjet digital printing, on-demand packaging can be created.

The introduction of 100% recyclable polypropylene sachets with high barrier capability supports this as many high-barrier applications, which are often required for food and other products, require a plastic or foil layer that subsequently makes packaging difficult, if not impossible to recycle.

To overcome this, V-Shapes has developed reNEW oX-100 and reNEW oX-500. These feature a sheet of polypropylene copolymers with a high-performance barrier. Certified by Interseroh as recyclable, they are designed to be detected, sorted and recycled in industrial waste streams. Interseroh ranked these two products at the high end of the scale in terms of suitability for mechanical recycling and the provision of secondary products. Because they use a mono-polymer construction, no polyethylene or PET is added to the recycling stream that would downgrade recyclability as is the case with other barrier materials. A mono-polymer construction makes reNEW oX-100 and reNEW oX-500 widely recyclable around the world. They also create the same size and weight sachets as other 100% recyclable materials used by V-Shapes.

These new materials are currently available for use with new and installed V-Shapes single-dose packaging machines.

V-Shapes CEO Christian Burattini explained, ‘Our reNEW-oX materials are available in several widths, ranging from 70 to 340 mm, to be suitable for both the Prime and Alpha machines, from one to six lanes of production. These new materials reflect the 4R concept – reduce, return, recycle, reward – that is a critical element of any sustainability initiative.’
