GMG Color and Colorware have embarked on a collaborative colour management partnership, where by the connectivity of OpenColor has been extended to MeasureColor.

GMG OpenColour is a colour management tool for packaging printing applications. It uses a proprietary spectral calculation model and can precisely predict the interplay between varying processes, substrates and overprinting.

MeasureColor is a quality and process control system offered by Colorware for offset, flexo, gravure and digital print environments. The system works with most spectral measurement devices directly and can import a variety of data formats so not to tie the user to a specific device brand for both hardware and software. With a focus on quality assurance, process control and standardisation in print production, MeasureColor is said to perform in any print environment and help optimise colour quality.

Further, the values that MeasureColor uses as a target for print production now exactly match the proofing colour definitions of GMG OpenColor. This ensures the proof is matched with ease and, as a result, customer’s expectations are met instantly. Therefore, make-ready and approval are much faster.

Ruud Wentrup, Colorware managing director, commented, ‘Thanks to the new collaboration, it is finally possible to close the gap between pre-press and the printing press. We are happy about the new possibilities of data exchange. That way, we can avoid many mistakes, produce less waste and obtain more precise colours. Trial-and-error is finally history and the printing process is accelerated sustainably.’

This collaboration is part of GMG’s wider work to open up OpenColor to other third-party tools. This will mean print data is automatically converted and optimally prepared for various printing technologies. The new connection options from GMG OpenColor allow for even more extensive process optimisation.

Peter Schöffler, product manager at GMG, said ‘The main requirements of our customers are automation and, of course, complete control over print quality. Both expectations are met with the new addition. As the library for spectral colour information, GMG OpenColor is the central hub of automated colour management in pre-press. In connection with MeasureColor, results match across the board for increased productivity and extended print capacity thanks to shorter make-ready times.’
