Federico D’Annunzio, formerly of Bobst and Gidue/Nuova Gidue, has been confirmed as the recipient of this year’s R. Stanton Avery Global Achievement Award.

Sponsored by Avery Dennison, the R. Stanton Avery Global Achievement Award recognises an innovation or idea that has helped transform and progress the label industry across the world.  Bestowed in memory of Stan Avery’s pioneering spirit and values, the award reflects the global nature of the industry and recognizes the collective contributions of the many as well as individuals.

Mr D’Annunzio has been a passionate advocate of the digitisation of the conventional label printing process. He joined the label industry at a time when two to three hours were required to change jobs and the operator was the master of quality. Today, with a combination of innovations, which he has led, a complete job changeover takes around one minute. Quality control is fully digitalised with a closed-loop system monitoring pressure, register and colour, all independent of the operator’s skill set.

As owner of Nuova Gidue, Mr D’Annunzio was integral to establishing the Revo group to promote and optimise extended colour gamut printing in the flexo label industry,

Following Gidue’s sale to Bobst, Mr D’Annunzio took on a senior technology innovation role at Bobst, in which he was involved in its hybrid press development. Master DM5 was launched at Labelexpo Europe 2019, combining Bobst’s flexo expertise with Mouvent inkjet digital printing technology.

Mike Fairley, chair of the judges, said, ‘We unanimously agreed that Federico D’Annunzio was the stand-out choice for the prestigious R. Stanton Avery Global Achievement Award, with endorsements from all corners of the world. What really stood out for us was the wide range of Federico’s creative and innovative solutions that between them have had such an impact on the fast-changing world of label press design, productivity and performance.’

The R. Stanton Avery Global Achievement Award is one of five Label Industry Global Awards categories, which are presented annually at Labelexpo events. With this year’s Labelexpo Americas event postponed, the awards will be presented through a special online announcement in September.
