Self-adhesive label industry association FINAT has confirmed the schedule for its next technical seminar, with digital to play an important part in the event’s programme.

The biennial event will take place 4-6 March, 2020 in Barcelona, Spain. The one and a half-day seminar – in English – is designed to help companies understand the added value of technology on their products and what techniques can be used to improve their organisational efficiency, customer service and profitability. Papers presented will show from a technical standpoint new features and requirements in printing, converting and processing that keep the labelling industry moving forward and help to add value in the supply chain.

On Thursday, 5 March, digital printing will be evident throughout the Technology & Business parallel working session, including an assessment of digital, flexo and hybrid technologies, a technology overview and a comparison of their respective strengths and weaknesses. This will touch on: current and future challenges in flexo, and new technologies; digital automation in analogue converting and flexo; current and future challenges in digital; new developments in digital inkjet inks (water-based, low migration); and new digital and analogue embellishment options.

A second session in this stream will look at the economic comparison between technologies, and the business impact of new digital and digitised technologies. TCO/ROI models of technology suppliers will be presented, flexibility in multi-process hybrid presses will be showcased, and new business scenarios through IoT and digital work will be explained. There will also be a roundtable on ‘Digital vs Flexo vs Hybrid’.
