Heidelberg has made a number of changes within its management team following the decision of Stephan Plenz to step down from his role leading the company’s digital technology segment.

Mr Plenz has been with Heidelberg for over 30 years. He has been a member of the management board since 2008 and, in addition to the sheet-fed, digital, label and post-press business units, is also responsible for R&D, purchasing and production.

Heidelberg supervisory board chairman Dr Siegfried Jaschinski, said, ‘Stephan Plenz has played a key role in shaping Heidelberg’s course over a long period of time. We would particularly like to thank him for setting up a modern production structure with a very successful site in China and for shaping an innovative and successful product portfolio that will enable Heidelberg to move into the digitised future. I would like to emphasise his special commitment in times of great change in our industry.’

Mr Plenz is leaving the company by mutual agreement at the end of his current contract in June 2020. This has resulted in the supervisory board and management board of Heidelberg deciding to further streamline management structures and reduce the size of the management board as part of the company’s digital transformation.

In the future, the technology department will be headed by Rainer Hundsdörfer, chairman of the management board, while purchasing will move to the finance department of CFO Marcus Wassenberg. Sales and digitisation will be concentrated at chief digital officer Professor Dr Ulrich Hermann. The handover begins immediately.
