Atlantic Zeiser has developed Digiline Versa Inline, allowing late-stage customisation of erected cartons.

The system utilises a four-colour Omega Pro UV inkjet engine to print variable data at a late-stage in the production cycle. This is achieved without the need to completely redesign existing production lines, and delivers uniform branding even with extensive individualisation for a batch or each carton, claimed Atlantic Zeiser.

The result, according to Atlantic Zeiser, is fewer types of cartons that must be kept in stock, making the supply chain more efficient and flexible.

Further, embedded RIP technology enables inline ripping of the variable data components. Automated cleaning of the heads ensures consistently ‘flawless’ print quality and the highest possible availability. The contactless cleaning process minimises UV ink consumption and improves printhead availability.

In addition to the printer, the basic Digiline Versa Inline module consists of a smooth-running vacuum transport frame and an electronic shaft for integration into existing packaging lines. Depending on customer requests and needs, available options include an alignment path, workpiece carrier, verification camera, ejection system, and high-performance production software.

Its application range covers printing unique identifiers, as well as special promotion codes and different languages or country-specific versions. The system is capable of a 600dpi resolution on a wide range of materials.

Digiline Versa Inline can print on flat, erected and filled folding cartons in batch sizes as small as one. It can be integrated into the process chain wherever the benefit is deemed to be the greatest, allowing brand owners and FMCG manufacturers to quickly access the advantages of digital variable data printing.

Barbara Schulz, head of digital printing solutions at Coesia, Atlantic Zeiser’s parent company commented, ‘It is no longer a question whether late-stage customisatio1qn will prevail, but rather how fast it will become the standard and who will be among the winners. The key to success will therefore be to start small, learn quick, and scale fast.’

Coesia also owns Hapa and ink specialist Tritron.
