HP Indigo used its VIP customer event in Tel Aviv on 12 February to celebrate the 1000th unit sold of its Series 4 digital presses, and partner Kurz introduced a new integrated digital metal embellishment unit.

‘Supplying 1000 presses to customers in 65 countries is an exciting milestone. The introduction of the HP Indigo B2 platform at drupa 2012 set the stage for a massive disruption in printing, prompting print service providers to re-evaluate their businesses,’ said general manager Alon Bar-Shany. ‘Today, adopters of HP Indigo technologies are enjoying double-digit growth thanks to their relentless drive to innovate and print different [sic].’

The 75cm-wide Series 4 platform includes the 20000 for labels and flexible packaging and the 30000 for folding cartons. Several flexible packaging converters are installing large fleets of the 20000; there are a total of 28 units at ePac in the US and eight with LVAI in China. Meanwhile the HP Indigo 12000 has reached 50 installations worldwide, including the recent purchase of five units by Smartpress.

Additionally, the company’s narrow web Series 3 labels and packaging presses, including the 8000 model and the 6000 series, have reached 1500 installed units. For the production of label and packaging embellishment, Kurz showed a new digital foiling unit, the DM-Jetliner, integrated with the HP Indigo 6900 press.

A new DFE version, SmartStream Production Pro v7.1, was also announced, which HP said supports a fully automated workflow for preparing increased numbers of jobs more quickly, automating pre-press and incorporating a ‘super-fast’ pixel-level viewer for artwork inspection.
