The Dscoop Daily delivered the news each day to the attendees at the largest HP users conference to date

There were 1250 HP graphic arts users, industry experts and solution partners gathered in Dublin last week for the Dscoop EMEA Open 2015, making the event the biggest for the independent user community to date. Nine HP presses were up and running on the show floor along with displays from 53 partners. Neel Madsen reports.

Statistics have shown that HP users who are members of Dscoop (Digital Solutions Cooperative) are 15 % more profitable than those who are not signed up. Listening to the experience of the printers that participated this is not surprising given their willingness to learn, share and engage. Cees Schouten, technical director of Geostick in the Netherlands and Dscoop EMEA founding board member, said that one of the many advantages for members is the way an operator in one print company can go online and get help from another through the online forums. He said, ‘You are constantly learning from other members and from partners. The benefits of sharing knowledge are huge.’

‘Our customers are the backbone of HP Indigo’s success and at the largest Dscoop EMEA conference yet, we’re celebrating our journey together,’ said Alon Bar-Shany, general manager, HP Indigo Division, on the first day. ‘With the latest technology advancements, new application versatility and the investments we have made in infrastructure, product development and services, our customers are poised to deliver continued business growth and value to their customers.’

The Conference Centre in Dublin played host to the event, which welcomed members from 47 countries. Two large halls were packed with equipment and products from not only HP Indigo, but also AB Graphic, Highcon, Scodix, LasX, Duplo, Brotech, Kama, Ashland, Michelman, Esko, Cerm, Chili Publish, Zünd, Label Traxx, Sei Laser, Tharstern, Imprint MIS, amongst others.

On the show floor, there was much of interest to the packaging printer, including the HP Indigo WS6800, which now offers a new primer from Michelman, the DP680. The 20000 and 30000 presses could also be seen in full production mode. HP announced that UNI Packaging has installed a second HP Indigo 20000 and is planning a third press to be installed later this year. ‘Quality output and high-performance technology are critical factors that drive the success of our business and the value we bring to our customers,’ said Franck Caresmel, group business development, UNI Packaging. ‘We are excited by the business opportunities that we are able to pursue with the HP Indigo 20000, and look forward to advancing our role in the flexible packaging digital revolution.’

The HP Indigo 30000 now prints on metallised media. It was demonstrating a single pass double varnishing solution with the TRESU iCoat 30000 Twin.

A wide range of educational sessions offered attendees more in-depth presentations and discussions on a number of topics. These were divided into general sessions and dedicated streams, and for the first time, Dscoop had a dedicated labels and packaging track, which proved very popular.

A new Dscoop EMEA labels and packaging committee has been established to refocus the event that has traditionally been heavily weighted towards commercial print.

Dublin also saw the inaugural Inkspiration Awards handed out to the winners of 10 categories, including Labels (won by Coreti from Spain), Flexible packaging (won by Uni Packaging France), and Folding cartons (MR Cartonnage also from France). There were 200 entries from 70 companies submitted.

Next year’s Dscoop for the EMEA region will be held in Israel in the run up to drupa on 6 to 10 April.
