CS Labels took home the trophy for the digital labels and packaging category at the FlexoTech International Print & Innovations Awards on 13 October.

Having received two nominations in the category, the company ultimately won for a peel and reveal label for Northern Monk Brewery’s Patrons Project (Coffee Porter), which was produced on its Xeikon CX3 press and GM DC330 finishing line.

CS Labels created this multi-layered label for Northern Monk Brewery

A limited edition run of 3500 labels, with three different designs, the Patrons Project features images by Leeds-based photographer Tom Joy. Initially the brewery requested a standard peel and reveal label using on white material, but the CS team suggested using a silver PP face instead to enhance the artwork, along with some other alterations to make the most of this special edition.

Led by production director Adam James, the team changed the middle left page to allow for the silver face material to shine through and create a metallic look. The result was standout label printed four colour process with double-sided metallics.

Simon Smith, managing director, said, ‘We are absolutely delighted to once again win this award. Every year the challenge becomes more difficult and compete against some of our peers in the industry, we recognise that we have to deliver an extra special label.’

The judges said, ‘The winner showed how digital print is able to push the appeal beyond the norm – combining print and finishing fantastically.’

The job has also been nominated in the Labels category at the Digital Printer Awards, which are held on 10 November 2016 in London.
