Linerless Plus (400), a self-adhesive material for linerless labels, has been launched by Herma to combine strong adhesion with reliable processing performance.

This is Herma first product that uses multi-layer 62Dps pressure-sensitive adhesive within this range. According to the company, unlike conventional linerless materials, which typically rely on adhesive-free zones to stop adhesive “bleed” and prevent build-up on machinery during roll converting and label cutting, the two-layer structure of 62Dps allows adhesive to be applied across the entire surface.

Markus Mateescu, head of silicone development at Herma, explained that adhesive-free zones have historically limited linerless labels in applications demanding high adhesive strength, he said: “Conventional linerless materials often feature adhesive-free zones to prevent both the dreaded “adhesive bleed” and rapid adhesive build up on machines during roll converting and label cutting.

“Because the adhesive can be applied over the entire surface without any adhesive-free zones, labels made with this adhesive adhere particularly well. This property is important in challenging applications, for example logistics and dispatch processes where rough cardboard surfaces, friction or mechanical stresses occur.”

Beyond adhesion, the company said the removal of adhesive-free zones brings practical benefits for label producers, including greater freedom in roll design and layout, since converters no longer need to pre-define adhesive-free areas. The company also noted that the multi-layer adhesive should extend cleaning intervals for linerless printers, as cutting mechanisms pick up less contamination during use.

Linerless Plus (400) follows Herma’s earlier launch of InNo-Liner, a silicone-free linerless material in which the adhesive only activates immediately before labelling. Mr Mateescu described the new product as closing “another gap in the market,” developed specifically for applications where conventional hot-melt linerless constructions fall short. Because it is designed to run on all standard linerless label printers, Herma said converters can adopt the material without additional equipment investment.
