French converter LP2i Étiquettes has installed a new digital hybrid printing solution for extended content labels, combining technology from Domino Printing Sciences, Grafotronic and Lake Image Systems to improve the production of multi-layer labels designed to carry expanded regulatory and product information.
The system combines Domino’s Domino N730i Integration Module and Domino K600i monochrome inkjet printer with Grafotronic web handling and finishing equipment. The setup allows printing directly onto label adhesive, reducing unwinding and rewinding steps traditionally required in multi-layer label production and increasing production flexibility.
According to the companies, the process supports the production of extended content and peel-and-reveal labels, with the ability to customise each layer, panel and stub. The configuration is designed to help brands address growing regulatory demands for additional on-pack information while working within the space limitations of conventional labels.
“We have saved an enormous amount of time producing extended content labels,” said Axel Néri, operator at LP2i Étiquettes. “I can spot print onto the adhesive, which is very easy, all while printing with the N730i. We started at 70 metres per minute, and then upgraded to 90 metres per minute, which is extremely fast – it’s completely revolutionary.”
The N730i Integration Module delivers 1200dpi print resolution at speeds of 70 metres per minute, with a high-speed mode enabling operation at up to 90 metres per minute, according to Domino. The company said high-opacity white ink also supports fine detail printing, including microtext down to 2pt.
The K600i monochrome inkjet printer adds variable data, text and 2D codes onto the adhesive layer, supporting customised content across multiple label layers. An inspection system from Lake Image Systems monitors print quality and can provide 2D code verification, while Grafotronic technology supports label stock handling and secondary layer assembly.
LP2i Étiquettes said the integrated solution has helped increase productivity, improve consistency and reduce material waste, while expanding its capabilities in extended content label production.
“Our clients demand the highest quality,” said Vivien Sol, quality manager at LP2i Étiquettes. “The Domino press provides us with greater control over our printing process, especially in terms of repeatability and print quality.”
“The new process increases our productivity, capacity, and profitability, because we save on materials and time,” added Patrice Néri, founder of LP2i Étiquettes. “And it’s true, if we had to do it all over again, I would choose Domino again, and – maybe soon – I’ll get a second Domino myself.”
Sebastién Van Der Luys, business development manager EMEA at Domino Printing Sciences, said: “We are excited to support LP2i Étiquettes in meeting the growing demand for extended content labels. This project is an excellent example of how close collaboration, technical expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement can deliver greater efficiency and consistency, and we look forward to continuing to support Mr Néri and the team to ‘do more’ as they optimise their operations.”
