Manufacturer of inks and coatings Siegwerk has signed an agreement to acquire Allinova, a specialty chemicals company based in Hengelo, the Netherlands. The transaction is said to strengthen Siegwerk’s position in functional and sustainable packaging coatings.
Founded in 2005, Allinova specialises in water-based dispersions, wax emulsions, and specialty chemicals such as flame retardants and repellents. The company has expanded steadily over the past decade and built a product portfolio serving packaging applications. Allinova’s founders, Gijs Elfrink and Bob Horsthuis, will continue with the company following the acquisition.
Siegwerk stated that the acquisition complements its existing product lines and supports its focus on developing circular and application-specific coating solutions. “Allinova’s solutions fit well with our portfolio and align with our goals for innovative and sustainable coatings,” said Gilles Le Moigne, business head of circular economy coatings at Siegwerk.
The move follows the 2024 launch of Siegwerk’s business unit dedicated to functional coatings aimed at advancing sustainable packaging. According to Siegwerk CEO Nicolas Wiedmann, the acquisition enhances the company’s capabilities in functional coatings and supports broader innovation efforts.
Siegwerk has pursued several strategic acquisitions in recent years to strengthen its presence in the packaging sector. In 2022, the company acquired Italian ink producer La Sorgente, expanding its reach in flexible packaging and paper applications. The deal with Allinova marks another step in Siegwerk’s effort to broaden its global footprint and technical capacity in coatings and packaging solutions.
