Paper and packaging solutions manufacturer Mondi has combined brown kraftliner packaging with digital printing with white inks for a market launch for its customer, Austria-based premium glassware manufacturer Riedel Glas.

The All American Bourbon glass series by Riedel has packs with an intricate design, fine lines, small font sizes and integrated QR codes, placing high demands on print quality. Mondi announced last year that it had installed “high-performance” digital printing with white ink capability at its Ebersdorf site in Germany, and this has been used to add precise and consistent reproduction of complex graphic elements to the uncoated brown substrates.

Mondi said its digital printing capability uses water-based inks that are tested and approved for use on primary packaging by Swiss Quality Testing Services (SQTS).

The project with Riedel Glas has delivered a fully recyclable sales packaging solution that meets high design requirements while aligning with the customer’s quality expectations, according to Mondi.
