Label materials specialist Herma has introduced the digital GreenGuide, an online tool designed to help packaging manufacturers, label printers, and brand owners identify sustainable self-adhesive label materials suitable for different types of packaging.
The interactive tool, available on Herma’s website, allows users to explore sustainable label solutions for nine common packaging types, including PET bottles, flexible and fibre-based packaging, glass, aluminium, and reusable containers. By selecting a packaging type, a key sustainability focus – such as recyclability or reduced resource use – and a preferred material category, users receive a list of compatible label face materials, adhesives, and liners.
“The range of sustainable self-adhesive materials is growing continuously, and we are expanding our portfolio all the time,” said Milos Kojic, head of B2B marketing at Herma. “Yet many label printers and users are wondering which sustainable label material is actually suitable for their specific packaging and where they can make the most impact – whether in terms of weight, resource consumption, or recyclability. The digital GreenGuide now provides clear, comparable answers to these questions within seconds.”
Herma says the GreenGuide only displays practical and currently available material combinations to ensure real-world applicability. “It’s of little help if a great sustainable label material exists but cannot be combined with the adhesive required for the surface of your packaging,” Mr Kojic added.
The company plans to expand the tool to include regulatory guidance, such as requirements from the forthcoming EU Packaging Regulation. The Herma GreenGuide is freely accessible online and does not require user registration.
