Durst Group has officially introduced its new Tau G3 digital press platform at Labelexpo Europe 2025. The platform, which includes two models – Tau G3 Core and Tau G3 Peak – is aimed at the labels and flexible packaging markets and is designed to deliver improved print quality, automation, and operational simplicity.

With native 1200 x 1200dpi resolution, the Tau G3 series supports print widths from 244mm to 510mm. The Core model prints at up to 61m/min, while the Peak model reaches 80m/min, expandable to 100m depending on configuration. Both systems are compatible with CMYK plus extended gamut inks, including Orange, Violet, Green, and White, and support both UV and LED curing options.

Durst says the G3 platform is engineered for a range of substrates, from paper and films to aluminium foils, across thicknesses ranging from 20 to 500µm. The press architecture builds on Durst’s previous Tau RSC design, introducing a new cooling system, ergonomic upgrades, and easier maintenance access. A new LED-based status display and redesigned electrical cabinet are also part of the system.

New automation features include Durst ARC (Automatic Register Control) for real-time colour registration and waste reduction, and Durst MEP (Material Edge Protection), which uses optical sensors and protective elements to reduce wear on printheads. Optional integration with Durst Hawk AI provides closed-loop nozzle correction and automated register adjustments during production.

Christoph Gamper, CEO and co-owner of Durst Group, commented: “With more than 550 high-end Tau systems in the field and over 4200 active inkjet installations worldwide, Durst is the leading force in digital production. The Tau G3 production platform is the logical next step – setting new benchmarks in innovation, in ecological and economic leadership, and in the integration of AI. It represents the future of intelligent and sustainable production.”

Durst also showcased its Durst-Omet KJET, a hybrid solution that combines digital inkjet with flexo printing and in-line finishing. This setup enables converters to apply varnishes and decorative effects in a single pass.

The company’s ink offering includes UV 3 inks for durability across various substrates and LED inks designed for low-energy curing and compatibility with heat-sensitive materials. All presses in Durst’s portfolio are compatible with the Durst Software Suite, including Durst Workflow Label and Durst Analytics, providing integrated production management and performance tracking.

The Tau G3 platform is currently in beta testing at customer sites, with full market availability planned for the second quarter of 2026. Durst will continue to offer its existing Tau 340 RSC E as an entry-level option and the RSCi as its high-end model. The company’s hybrid solutions, including the KJET and XJET, remain part of its broader portfolio.
