Software specialist, Hybrid Software, has unveiled Packz 11, the latest innovation in its Packz software. The new version includes what the company says is an industry-first RIP integration, plus an extended CF2 format and automated support for 2D barcodes as required by the GS1 Sunrise 2027 Initiative, which aims to transition 1D barcodes to 2D barcodes by 2027.

Packz 11 introduces Packz Max, featuring integrated Harlequin RIP technology for screening control from within the Packz PDF editor. Packz Max converts artwork into precise dot patterns, generating real-time rasterised previews and manages final output to platesetters. The combination of PDF editing with live RIP previews means Packz Max maximises print quality and operational efficiency for both flexo and offset printing workflows.

Hybrid Software adds RIP integration and GS1 barcode support to latest Packz

Hybrid Software’s Packz Max

“Packz Max is a true game-changer, built entirely on Hybrid’s proprietary tech stack with the industry-leading Harlequin RIP inside,” stated Pascal Wybo, product manager at Hybrid Software. “For the first time ever, flexo prepress service providers and printing houses can handle all prepress operations within a single unified application. This delivers unprecedented process efficiency, superior screening quality, smooth gradients, and consistent colour while eliminating the need for costly additional RIP servers.”

Hybrid Software’s Packz 11 also introduces expanded support for the CF2 format to address the needs of folding carton and corrugated packaging. New capabilities such as bend angles and creasing line sequencing enable accurate 3D visualisation and automation, integrating with structural design systems, cutting tables, and Hybrid’s own iC3D ray-tracing software. These advancements strengthen interoperability and promote the use of open, standardised formats across the packaging supply chain, explained Hybrid.

Packz 11 also prepares users for the GS1 Sunrise 2027 Initiative, which requires support for next-generation barcodes. The software automatically detects traditional barcodes and converts them into GS1-compliant 2D codes like QR Codes and Data Matrix symbols. This enhances product traceability and enables deeper consumer engagement through access to enriched digital product data.
