Global print and packaging supplier Multi Packaging Solutions (MPS) has made two new acquisitions. In the UK, it has acquired AJS Labels, which is based in Littlehampton and Featherstone.

Established over 40 years ago, AJS supplies many major brands, including Nestlé, Sainsbury’s and The Body Shop, with self-adhesive, digital and flexo printed labels. It employs around 80 people over its two manufacturing sites. AJS recently won two categories at the FlexoTech Awards for the L’Oréal Magic Retouch Beige label. This went on to win Label of Year at the UK Packaging Awards.

In the US, MPS has acquired i3 Plastic Cards, based in Dallas, Texas. i3 produces plastic transaction cards, including pre-paid gift and loyalty cards.

Collectively the businesses recorded net sales of approximately $25 million in the last 12 months. Marc Shore, chief executive officer, said, ‘The acquisition of AJS is consistent with our strategy to develop a more substantial position in their end markets. It will help us grow the business organically and be part of our expanding global capability in the label space.’

Andrew and Jayne Scrimgeour, owners and founders of AJS Labels, said, ‘We have been involved with the business for over seven years and are very proud of what has been achieved. Over that period, the business has grown significantly. We have built a strong reputation for innovation and service and we now produce an extensive range of labels for some of Europe’s best known brands. The deal will allow the company to realise its ambitious plans to grow and develop as part of a business with a global footprint and a broader range of capabilities.’
