Austrian printer Logett has bought a Xeikon 3300

Adding to its flexo capabilities, Austrian printer Logett has bought a Xeikon 3300 press after deciding that it was the right time to invest in digital print technology.

Founded in 1998, the company specialises in the production of blank self-adhesive labels for a wide variety of labelling and coding systems. The family-owned company is a subsidiary of Müroll GmbH and employs 13 staff. It produces labels for logistics and transport companies as well as many food manufacturers in Austria and Switzerland.

‘The print runs remain the same, but within each job, the number of sorts is growing enormously, said Manfred Pichler, operations manager. He continued, ‘We can now print jobs that previously passed us by, using digital printing. By eliminating plate and tool costs, we can react much faster and with greater flexibility to customer requests. Printing variable data using thermal printing is now uneconomical in the long run.’

Two other key reasons for investing in the Xeikon 3300 were the use of standard uncoated materials (including paper, thermal paper and PP film) and food-grade toner. The fifth colour station was originally intended for opaque white for transparent labels, but is today mainly printing orange. ‘We use the orange to extend the colour gamut and to enhance the colour brilliance of designs that contain a lot of red,’ explained Mr Pichler.

Self-adhesive blank labels and logistic labels printed in one or more colours still make up the majority of work produced by the company, but the new investment has enabled Logett to expand its core product range. It is also considering investing in inkjet at a future date and is looking to expand its premises in Frastanz, located near the border with Switzerland and Lichtenstein.
