Mondi has expanded its food packaging portfolio to include solid board solutions and additional digital printing capabilities, a development that follows the company’s acquisition of Schumacher Packaging. The move broadens Mondi’s ability to supply packaging to food producers across Europe.
According to the company, the updated portfolio now covers a range of materials, including corrugated and solid board packaging as well as flexible formats. Mondi says the expansion is intended to support customers responding to changes in consumer preferences, EU regulations, and demand for packaging that is easier to recycle.
The expanded offering addresses several industry trends, including lighter packaging formats, retail-ready packaging for improved shelf presentation, and materials designed to meet EU requirements for recyclability and circularity.
“The food sector is undergoing rapid change, with sustainability targets, EU legislation and shifting consumer behaviours all driving new requirements for packaging,” said Paulus Goëss, chief operating officer of corrugated solutions at Mondi. “By expanding our portfolio, we can help customers respond to these trends.”
The company’s updated product range includes packaging solutions for fresh produce, meat and seafood, dairy, frozen foods, snacks, confectionery and beverages. Options include ventilated trays, high-strength boxes, multipacks, wraps, point-of-sale displays and packaging for bulk transport. Mondi is also offering e-commerce-focused food packaging, such as boxes with various closure options and inserts designed for online grocery delivery.
Through the integration of Schumacher Packaging’s facilities, Mondi says it has increased its regional production capacity and supply flexibility. The company notes that its offering is supported by food-safety testing labs and its ThinkBox design hubs, where customers collaborate with technical experts on packaging development.
The company also reports that it now provides a range of digital, flexographic and offset printing options, including six-colour digital printing with white ink for corrugated packaging.
