Photonic printing technology company DataLase has announced that Swedish industrial group Bergman & Beving has acquired a 90% shareholding in the business.

DataLase, based in Widnes, UK, provides patented, inkless and sustainable printing solutions used in product and packaging applications worldwide. Its photonic printing technology allows high-speed, high-quality printing directly onto a variety of materials without traditional inks, which the company says supports cleaner and more efficient production processes.

Bergman & Beving, founded in 1906 and listed on Nasdaq Stockholm, operates a portfolio of around 40 companies across more than 25 countries. The group employs approximately 1400 people globally and focuses on acquiring and supporting autonomous, growth-oriented industrial businesses.

Under the new ownership, DataLase will join Bergman & Beving’s Safety Technology division. The acquisition aligns with the group’s strategy of investing in specialist niche companies with long-term potential.

DataLase CEO Clare Lewis welcomed the acquisition, describing Bergman & Beving’s approach as a good fit for the company’s values and ambitions. “Their long-term approach, proven ability to develop specialist technical companies, and commitment to sustainability align perfectly with our own values,” Ms Lewis said. “This partnership will allow us to accelerate our global growth, continue advancing our photonic printing technology, and deliver even greater value to our customers.”

Following the transaction, Ms Lewis will remain as CEO and retain a 10% shareholding in the business.
