Bobst has announced a series of updates to its NovaFold folder-gluer range, aimed at improving automation, speed, and usability for packaging converters. The enhancements apply to the NovaFold 50, 80, and 110 models, which are used for producing straight-line, crash-lock, and 4- and 6-corner boxes in 24/7 production environments.

Key changes include an increase in belt speed from 300 to 350 metres per minute, and a rise in backfolding capacity to 22,000 boxes per hour. The folding section has also been extended from 2300mm to 3000mm, enabling a more controlled and slower folding process. This change is particularly beneficial for handling larger formats and sensitive materials, contributing to improved quality and reduced waste.

The updated machines can now be equipped with the Sphere user interface, which supports digital job memorisation and on-screen guidance for machine setup. This allows operators to save and recall full job configurations, helping to reduce downtime and improve consistency. Job parameters can also be prepared in advance and sent directly to the machine, streamlining changeovers and supporting more predictable production workflows.

Other improvements include the addition of pneumatic locking on the feeder ramp for easier lateral adjustments, aimed at reducing manual setup time and improving ergonomics.

Quality control remains a focus with continued support for the AccueEject system, which automatically removes defective boxes at full speed.

“These updates reflect our effort to align NovaFold with the day-to-day realities of packaging production,” said Pierre Binggeli, head of product line folder-gluers at Bobst. “We’ve focused on increasing speed, enhancing folding precision, and simplifying operator tasks.”

The upgraded NovaFold models are compatible with Bobst Connect, allowing users to access performance data and support digital decision-making. The machines are also backed by Bobst’s global service network.
