Swedish label converter Nordvalls Etikett has installed a second HP Indigo V12 digital press at its production facility, less than two years after introducing the first unit. The investment forms part of the company’s broader “Nordvalls 2.0” strategy, which focuses on modernising its operations and expanding digital capacity.
Founded in 1907, Nordvalls serves sectors including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and logistics. The company has steadily increased its investment in digital technology to adapt to shifting market requirements and shorter turnaround times.
The HP Indigo V12 press, based on LEPx (Liquid Electrophotography) technology, is designed for continuous high-speed label production. With a top speed of 120 linear metres per minute, the press enables Nordvalls to consolidate production from several older machines, while maintaining print quality and increasing overall throughput.
According to Nordvalls CEO Patrik Jenemark, the V12 helps bridge a production gap between the company’s short-run digital jobs—previously handled by its HP Indigo 6K—and longer-run analogue work.
“The HP Indigo V12 has fundamentally changed how we operate,” Mr Jenemark said. “It complements our flexo capacity and has allowed us to reduce setup times, cut waste, and improve responsiveness on the production floor. Adding a second unit was a logical step in our ongoing digital transformation.”
The new press is installed in an expanded production site designed to support a more automated, end-to-end digital workflow. Nordvalls reports that simplifying its processes has improved operator experience and helped streamline recruitment and training efforts—a growing focus as the company continues to expand its workforce.
The increased capacity has also allowed the converter to migrate some label applications from analogue to digital. One example cited by the company involved transitioning a well-known Swedish food brand’s SKUs from flexo to digital, with the aim of improving colour consistency and handling a wide range of run lengths more efficiently.
Sustainability has also played a role in the decision. Nordvalls notes that the V12’s fast setup times and ability to handle short and medium runs more efficiently have contributed to lower substrate waste and better inventory control—fitting into its wider environmental targets.
Noam Zilbershtain, VP and General Manager of HP Indigo, said the second press highlights Nordvalls’ commitment to evolving its production model. “They’re not just adding capacity—they’re increasing production agility,” Mr Zilbershtain said. “This is a strong example of digital printing enabling more responsive and efficient operations.”
