The HP ‘lab’ at Labelexpo demonstrating the performance of the labels in challenging environments
Pack Ready for Labels was launched by HP at Labelexpo in Brussels, where it was announced that the first user in the UK is Amberley Labels.
The new method offers label printers the ability to produce high durability labels with excellent chemical, scratch, thermal and water resistance, on the HP Indigo digital label presses. The suite of pre- and post-print options includes an upgraded Inline Priming Unit for the HP Indigo WS6800 press, and varnishes and primers from Michelman.
Trevor Smith, managing director of Amberley Labels, commented, ‘We’re very excited about it and clearly see the potential. We even submitted samples to some of our customers and one of them has already confirmed they have passed their internal testing.’
According to Michelman, the cornerstone is the DigiPrime 022 water-based primer, which has been formulated specifically for use inline with the WS6000 series. The company launched DigiGuard 222, a new UV curable overprint varnishes (OPV), available in matte and glossy versions at the show, and it is the combination of the primer and the new OPVs that gives the high durability.
The company said that for press owners who want to continue using their current UV curable OPVs, a new additive, DigiGuard 901 OPV strengthener, will be available. This additive will enable HP approved OPVs to reach the required performance levels, when used in conjunction with DigiPrime 022.
