Finnish packaging printer, Jaakkoo-Taara, has advanced its digital print capabilities by optimising and automating its workflow processes for the production of labels and folding cartons.
A recently implemented customised workflow integrates Xeikon and Esko solutions to provide the company advantages in time savings, variable data capability, increased accuracy, colour optimisation and smaller print runs.
Serving customers in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and food industries, the company added digital to its offset and flexo production earlier this year, with the investment in a Xeikon Folding Carton Suite, which includes a 3500 digital press. ‘Advanced colour conversion and consistency with a fifth colour in combination with CMYK was an important driver to decide to work with Xeikon, just as the ability to be compliant with FDA food regulations,’ said managing director Thomas Brusila.
Keen to take workflow automation further, Jaakkoo-Taara has integrated the Xeikon X-800 digital front-end and Esko’s Automation Engine with the new press. ‘Our primary goals were to increase automation and accuracy in the workflow through the reduction of manual input, and to speed up the process from pre-press to final print for a shorter lead-time,’ explained Mr Brusila.
He concluded, ‘We are certain our customers, especially those with in an interest in market testing, will benefit from our highly automated workflow. It allows us to print smaller runs efficiently and easily, and to include variable data. And customers with straightforward print jobs can take advantage of the increased order automation and faster turnaround, which also opens new business opportunities for Jaakkoo-Taara.’
